On-site Protea Hotel Fire & Ice Cape Town facilities include a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, spa and fitness centre.
As you explore Cape Town you will soon realise it’s a bit of Europe rolled into Africa with its quirky streets in the Cape Town City Bowl, laden with boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, bars and coffee shops set against the backdrop of that signature table-shaped mountain. All are in walking distance of the hotel.
Hop on to the City Sightseeing bus to get your bearings, or while away the time sauntering along V&A Waterfront. You can easily spend the whole day here in this seaside wonderland.
Witness those rugged mountains overlooking the pristine beaches of Clifton & Camp’s Bay, and if you’re in the mood to venture away from the tourist hubs, head off on a jaw-dropping coastal drive starting from Sea Point & Green Point, then down to the Cape South Peninsular. Meander through the Cape Town Southern Suburbs to meet more of the locals and long-time expats.
From beach views to vineyards, be sure to explore Groot Constantia if it’s your first time in Cape Town. It’s known as the oldest wine producing estate in South Africa, and its majestic gardens are great for exploring. You’ll also find the gorgeous Cape Dutch architecture easy on the eye. As the locals will remind you, there really is nothing like a nip of good wine to ease into the late afternoon in the Mother City.
Make your way to boulders beaches to witness more than a few penguins, typically dressed to the nines in their black and white “tuxedos”. In Hout Bay, take a leisurely boat ride out to Duiker Island to meet the local colony of resident seals. On the quayside, you’ll find a few hovering around the fish cleaning station and posing for pictures. On your way back to the Protea Hotel, stop by the well-loved Kalkies in Kalk Bay for a casual lunch of fresh vis ‘n tjps.
